Argentina: Main barley region of Buenos Aires province looking much better thanks to recent rains
Much needed relief to dry conditions has arrived in Argentina in the form of heavy rains in the last two weeks of March, RMI Analytics said in their early April report.
The main barley region of southern Buenos Aires province is looking much better ahead of the upcoming planting season.
Economic conditions remain very difficult in the country with hyper-inflation and now the government considering more special exchange rates. It is not clear if grains will be included in the next round of currency deals but it is clear the government is in desperate need of hard currency and tax income. An announcement is expected any day, and the outcome will have a large influence on farmer selling ideas, the analysts said.
Argentina barley prices have shifted lower despite total silence in the domestic market. From the export side prices are lower in an attempt to stay competitive globally, and domestic FAS prices are down even further, as the trade is unclear on future export demand. The trade expects China to remain an export declaration on the basis of recent solid quality performance for Argentine barley.
